Turkish Cinema at the 74th Berlin Film Festival!
Turkish Cinema was promoted at the 74th Berlin Film Festival this year.
20 Films in the Main Competition
20 films competed for the awards, including feature films from international filmmakers Olivier Assayas, Mati Diop, Hong Sangsoo, Bruno Dumont and Abderrahmane Sissako. The Golden Bear for Best Film was awarded to Dahomey by Mati Diop. Emily Watson won The Silver Bear for Best Supporting Performance for her role in Small Things Like These, while Sebastian Stan received The Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance in A Different Man. Nelson Carlo De Los Santos Arias was honored with The Silver Bear for Best Director for his film Pepe, and the Silver Bear Jury Prize went to Bruno Dumont for Empire. The Silver Grand Jury Prize was bestowed upon A Traveller’s Needs by Hong Sangsoo.
Lupita Nyong'o was president of the Jury of the 74th Berlin International Film Festival alongside actor and director Brady Corbet (USA), director Ann Hui (Hong Kong, China), director Christian Petzold (Germany), director Albert Serra (Spain), actress and director Jasmine Trinca (Italy), and writer Oksana Zabuzhko (Ukraine).
Turkish Cinema is Being Promoted
Within the context of the European Film Market section of the festival, Turkish films will be showcased in the international arena by introducing the newest and under development projects of Turkish cinema in the genres of feature films, short films and documentaries.
Co-production and project opportunities which have become very important in the cinema sector will also be discussed at the festival in order to transfer information and technology, access to local funding sources, create potential markets and develop promotional activities.
At the Berlin Film Festival, also the "Foreign Film Production Support" which came into force with the new cinema law will be presented to international filmmakers.
